An Overview

Chandrakhani pass located at 3660m is a blissful trek in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The best time for the Chandrakhani pass trek is in the month of April-July and September-November. Naggar near Manali is the nearest town from the base camp. The length of this trek is 14 km one way and the entire hike offers delightful view of the mighty Himalayas.

The Chandrakhani Pass trek is a perfect getaway which will keep coming to your mind for a long time. The trailhead starts from Naggar which lies only 20 km away from the popular tourist destination of Manali. The mountains are covered with the beautiful forest of pine and oak trees, rhododendron bushes, and alpine meadows. The forests are famous for its Himalayan birds like Monal. The trail leading to Chandrakhani and Malana is quite steep at places which make it a perfect trek for those seeking adventure. From the top of the ridge, one can see Bara Banghal range to the west, Pir Panjal Range to the north and Parvati valley to the east. Through the path of a forest cover of deodar, pine, and chestnut, you will also come across nomadic Gujjar shepherds rearing their cattle. The trek then breaks out to the alpine meadows at higher altitudes.

One of the most beautiful and serene passes, Chandrakhani is also visible from Naggar - an ancient town commands extensive views of the pass and its neighbouring mountains, especially to the North West of the valley. Naggar was the former capital of Kullu and was founded by Raja Visudhpal. Picture perfect Naggar valley, with its fertile fields, evergreen thicket and crystal clear gushing waters which set against the backdrop of towering mountains provides everything that an adventure seeker dreams of.

Chandrakhani Pass Trek Itinerary

Day 1

The trek begins with our arrival in Kullu from Delhi, followed by a short drive to Naggar. The first day will be used to get comfortable and well prepared for the physical and mental exertion that lies ahead. After a short briefing and ice breaking sessions through the day, we call it a nght at the ancient town of Naggar.

Day 2

This day begins with an early morning drive to the last roadhead at Rumsu. We then start our trek towards Chandrakhani pass. After reaching the pass, a brief about the place and about the ranges visible from there will be given and the day will end with a bonfire and night stay in tents.

Day 3

In the morning, we begin our descend from Chandrakhani to Rumsu. We then drive back from Rumsu to Naggar and finally depart from Naggar back to Delhi with a heart filled with happy memories!
