OVERVIEW

Manimahesh Lake, also called Dal Lake, is a highly revered high-altitude lake situated in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh, India. It lies at an altitude of 4,080 meters (13,390 ft) above sea level and is located near the Manimahesh Kailash Peak, which stands at 5,656 meters above sea level. For Hindus, this lake holds deep religious significance and is considered the second most sacred after Lake Mansarovar in Tibet.

The Manimahesh Yatra, a pilgrimage trek that takes place in August/September during the month of Bhadon according to the Hindu calendar, is undertaken by many devotees to reach this lake. There are two routes to reach the lake. The first trek starts from Hadsar village, which is 14 km long, easier, and has adequate food and water facilities en route, especially during the pilgrimage season. The other route starts from Holi village, which is more scenic but tiring and has no civilization en route except for a small village.

Near the lake lies Kamal Kund, another beautiful lake located just below the Kailash Peak. The trek to Kamal Kund is only 2 kilometers from the base camp of Manimahesh Lake and offers stunning views of the lake. Beyond Kamal Kund lies the Kugti Pass trail, which connects the Bharmour area to Lahaul Valley. This trail is traditionally followed by people of Lahaul & Spiti during the Manimahesh Yatra to reach the lake from the Lahaul side.

Manimahesh Kailash is one of the Abodes of Lord Shiva and not only offers breathtaking vistas but also fills visitors with a deep sense of reverence and spirituality. Plan a trip to Manimahesh Lake for a spiritual and scenic adventure!
