Description

Manimahesh Lake Trek (4,080 m) is a spiritual trek in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Trekatribe offers trekking to this awe-inspiring trek in the month of August & September. Manimahesh Lake (also known as Dal Lake) is a high altitude lake {elevation 4,080 metres (13,390 ft)} situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, in Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district. This lake lies just in front of mighty Manimahesh Kailash peak (5,656m). The trek to this lake starts from Hadsar and is about 14 km from Hadsar. The lake is the venue of a highly revered pilgrimage trek undertaken during the month of August/September corresponding to the month of Bhadon according to Hindu calendar, on the eighth day of the New Moon period. It is known as the ‘Manimahesh Yatra’. Towards the north-east of Manimahesh lake and just below the Kailash peak, there is lake situated known as Kamal Kund. The trek to Kamal Kund lake is just 2km from the base camp near Manimahesh Lake. One can witness a beautiful view of this holy lake from this Kund. Beyond Kamal Kund, there is trek towards Kugti pass which connects Bharmour area to Lahaul valley. The Kugti pass trail is followed by the people of Lahaul to reach Manimahesh lake during the Manimahesh Yatra from Lahaul side. Manimahesh Kailash is one of the Abode of Lord Shiva.

FACTS

  • The word Manimahesh means a jewel or Mani and Mahesh refers to Lord Shiva. So, the name Manimahesh signifies a jewel on the crown of Lord Shiva.
  • It is said that the rays of the moon reflected from the jewel on Kailash can be witnessed from Manimahesh Lake also known as Dal Lake on full-moon nights.
  • Pilgrimage from throughout the state and whole country undertake Manimahesh Yatra, which starts from Lakshminarayan Temple in Chamba and ends at the Manimahesh Lake in Bundhil valley.

SHORT ITINERARY

Day 1 (22 August)- Arrival at Chamba. Drive towards Hadsar, Bharmour. Trek of 3km towards the camping site. Bonfire, dinner and night stay in tents.

Chamba: Ensconced in the valley of the fast-flowing Ravi River, the capital of Chamba district is a beguiling old town with some beautiful temples, a good museum and bustling markets. Chamba was founded in AD 920 when Raja Sahil Varman moved his capital here from Bharmour, and it remained capital of the Chamba kingdom until the merger with India in 1947, though under British control from 1846.

Day 2 (23 August)- After breakfast, an early morning trek towards Manimahesh Lake with lunch en route. Exploring around and briefing about the ranges, peaks, and passes visible around. Dinner and night stay in tents.

Manimahesh Lake: Manimahesh Lake is a high altitude lake situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

Day 3 (24 August)- After breakfast, visit the lake and descend towards Hadsar with lunch en route. Dinner, bonfire and night stay in tents.

Day 4 (25 August)- After breakfast, drive back to Chamba. At Chamba, we part ways to meet soon for another trekking adventure. (Night stay in Chamba would be arranged if required by you)

Meals- Vegetarian Nutritious and Tasty Meals during the Trek. Evening Tea

Other Guidance

  • Climbers are reminded that there is a 15kg limit on personal luggage for all climbs.
  • Cameras, whether video or film, needed to be protected against the severe cold either in a warm pouch or the interior pockets of your clothing. Do not keep your camera in your backpack at higher elevations.
  • We do not provide donkeys or porters to carry luggage.
  • No insurance is provided during the trek.
  • When between camps, please carry your daily personal rubbish to the next camp.
  • Remember – “Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints”. So, keep the mountains clean and green.
  • Aspirins and Paracetamols are highly recommended for headaches and because they also thin the blood that will help improving circulation & oxygen delivery to the body.  Strong painkillers are not recommended as they can suppress respiration.
  • Personal expense of any kind will not be entertained.

Personal Equipment Required:

  •  A good sturdy pair of shoes and a backpack with plastic or water-proof lining.
  • Comfortable, lightweight clothing.
  • Sunglasses or goggles.
  • Woollen hat for warmth.
  • Pocket knife.
  • Torch.
  • Scarf or bandana.
  • Lip balm.
  • Ear plugs. (Optional)
  • Spare contact lenses or glasses.
  • Thermal innerwear.
  • Extra polythene bags.
  • A whistle.
  • Reading materials, Games, Cards. (Optional)
  • Towel especially lightweight quick-dry type.
  • Track pants with more pockets. Carry around 2 pants. Avoid jeans.
  • Waterproof jackets and gloves.
  • A raincoat since the weather can be unpredictable sometimes. (Optional)
  • Identification proof like Passport, Driving license, Aadhar card etc.
  • 1 Passport size photograph.

  • Cancellation of booking of tour 31 days or more before the date of Departure will result in 20% deduction in the cost of the tour.
  • Cancellation of booking of tour 21-30 days before the date of Departure will result in 40% deduction of the cost of the tour.
  • Cancellation of booking of tour 11-20 days before the date of Departure will result in 60% deduction of the cost of the tour.
  • Cancellation of booking of tour 6-10 days before the date of Departure will result in 80% deduction of the cost of the tour.
  • Cancellation of booking of tour 1-5 days before the date of Departure will result in 100% deduction of the cost of the tour.
