Overview

Triund, situated at an altitude of 2,975 meters, is often referred to as the crown jewel of Dharamshala as it offers a perfect view of the Dhauladhar mountains on one side and the Kangra Valley on the other. It is a popular trekking spot that attracts numerous tourists from India and all over the world. The trek commences from the BhagsuNag side and takes you through a stunning forest of oak, deodar, and rhododendron, making it a perfect spot for birdwatchers as it's filled with various songbirds.

The best time to trek is from March to June and from September to December, despite the rainy season in August and July when trekking is still possible, and it rewards you with lush green meadows offering a picturesque view. Triund offers a magnificent view of the Dhauladhar Matterhorn or the Gauri Junda (4916 m), the highest peak in the Dharamshala region. Moon Peak (4632 m), the most visible and attractive landmark in Dhauladhar Himalayas, will be right in front of you, almost as if you could reach out and touch it! The trek to Triund is an enriching experience for both the body and the soul, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets that will undoubtedly make you fall in love with the place!

Triund Trek Itinerary

Day 1

After reaching McLeod Ganj early in the morning in a comfortable AC Volvo bus from Delhi, we start for the trek after having breakfast. The starting point is the Gallu Devi Temple in McLeod Ganj, which is the last memorable road to Triund, and from there we begin our uphill journey. We stop at one of the many café- dhabas en route for lunch and gorge on some delicious omelettes or parathas- whatever floats your boat! The entire trek uphill will take about 4-5 hours. The climb is very easy with a few steep ascents here and there, with magnificent views giving you company throughout! After reaching Triund top, we pitch our tents, light a bonfire and get ready for some piping hot dinner to warm us against the strong evening winds at the ridge. Go to bed with a happy tummy, and a happier heart, surrounded by such picturesque vistas.

Day 2

We wake up early morning to catch one of the best sunrises you will ever see, with the sun rays spilling over the snow clad Dhauladhar Mountains. After breakfast, we begin our descent which will be much easier and faster than the climb up. Upon reaching McLeod Ganj, you are free to explore the city and its bustling markets selling beautiful trinkets like healing crystal jewellery, colourful yak wool apparels and much more! Board the evening Volvo bus to Delhi with a happy heart full of warm memories from this short but utterly eventful getaway!
